"Exquisitely decorated with perfection as standard"

The picturesque stone fronted Chapel Cottage was built in 1877 and is a beautiful holiday home. The amazing reclusive quiet location within the courtyard gives access within one minute to Kirkby Lonsdale’s main street with all its fantastic eateries, coffee shops, boutiques and individual shops. Renovated to designer standards, whilst keeping all of its original rustic features. These include oak beamed ceilings; stone floors open fireplace and lovely little nooks and crannies to enjoy, with the added comfort of central heating. It has an element of privacy but at the same time is so accessible to the idealistic town…New to Chapel Cottage is free Wifi!!!  Adjoining is Corner Cottage which can be taken together with Chapel for group bookings ideal for up to 10 guests.

Lounge/Dining Area

Chapel Cottage Lounge Area

Chapel Cottage Lounge Area

The Lounge/Dining area is decorated with tasteful Zoffany wallpaper and Farrow and Ball French Gray paint colours, mixed with a chocolate brown settee with pewter colour cushions. There is an original open cast iron fireplace with ornate tiles that provides a beautiful setting for a real fire. The ceiling has the original beams which add to the charm of the property. There is a 32” television with freeview which has a DVD/CD player incorporated. There are two lovely window seats in this large, oblong spacious room and the large L-shaped settee.   A solid oak table with 4 chairs and a fantastic church pew defines the dining area. The table also extends if needed. Board games can be found in the old leather suitcase provided. Chocolate brown moc’ crocodile wall lights are on dimmer switches to improve the ambience of the room when needed. The finishing touches…There is a lovely wirework tree wall art and some eagle and horse-head walking sticks. These are decorative, and we hope you like them.

The Kitchen

Chapel Cottage Kitchen

Chapel Cottage Kitchen

This area is very spacious with a kitchen table and chairs, dishwasher, sink, gas hob and electric fan oven, and of course adorned with leathered finished granite worktops. The original beams are again prevalent giving the kitchen that cottage feel. There is a back door to the side of the cottage where you will find herbs growing. (Please help yourself whilst cooking). You will also find all of the usual standard kitchen equipment including, toasters, microwave, large fridge and freezer. The store cupboard houses a washing machine, ironing board, iron, (if you really feel the need to iron?), pan, brush, mops etc. Gardening tools are also kept here, please potter if you feel inclined at all, and make yourselves at home.

Enjoy the hatch, passing your coffees from the ‘West wing’ to the ‘East wing’.

We have added the photo hanging rack in the kitchen where you can view previous holiday makers who have enjoyed Chapel Cottage. The double Victorian light does not pull down unfortunately as the ceilings are low.

The landing and stairs are all wooden and light and airy, and hopefully you will appreciate the lovely sense of space created here which is unusual in a cottage. Another original beam adds to this area.

The Twin Bedroom

This is exactly as it says. Twin beds with toile bedspreads, to give that lovely cottage look, in cream and rectory red.

There is a double wardrobe with shelving and drawers and rustic mirror. The window seat and cushions finish the room off perfectly. This is a very cosy, tranquil room.

Having a beautiful Victorian white double bed, with white furniture giving a very crisp and clean feel to it. The large double wardrobe with drawers and shelves also has a matching dressing table and mirror. Designers Guild turquoise bedding, with plenty of pillows and throws to snuggle into. There is also a very indulgent 32” flatscreen freeview tv to watch if you want to really chill out. This is also a DVD/CD player. The centre white chandelier is fitted with a dimmer switch for subtle lighting, but we have placed reading side lamps on the bedside tables.

This spacious room has a spare single bed which can, if required be used for a child.

Second Level

Master Bedroom

This time with a Kingsize biscuit colour Victorian bed. The bed has been finished off with…. Harlequin bedding and black rustic porthole mirror along with a full-length mirror for your use. Every detail has been thought through, including a dimmer switch to the centre chandelier for that certain atmospheric form of lighting. This room has a rustic, hessian cream and black look, with light flooding through its wonderful arched window. There is a window seat and great little bedroom chair to sit and read or listen to music. A 32” firescreen freeview TV with DVD/CD player is also wall mounted. Through another door is a walk-in wardrobe (American Style) to hang and shelve all your clothes out of the way, to leave your bedroom clear and uncluttered.

The en-suite shower room has a modern twist, with lit mirror and chrome heated towel rail, mixed with original tiled marble topped wash stand. The power shower, loo and sink have wall units to house all your toiletries.

Outside the cottage…

You will find a pretty walled garden at the front of the cottage which is south facing until late afternoon. There is a wirework table and chairs located on the gravelled area which is in a lovely suntrap. Linen cushions can be brought out to spend time relaxing with the newspapers or a good book and a cup of coffee, or perhaps a glass of wine! A double wooden bench is under the lounge window and catches the early morning sunshine too. Bird feeders are dotted around with lovely stone birdbaths. Please find a cast iron Wellington boot stand at the side of the cottage, where your wellies can be kept whilst not in use.

The designer’s bit…

As you can see from the gallery, the high specification and attention to detail shines through. We feel that the holiday cottage, whilst keeping its cosy cottage feel has a lovely airy and spacious feel to it. The decor has be very carefully chosen and thought through. Farrow and Ball colours and Designers Guild bedding, especially chosen to give the three bedrooms their own identity, whilst the kitchen and lounge mix rustic with contemporary.

The cottage is now fully double glazed, sympathetically using wood effect encasement to ensure a lovely warm and snug winter retreat. All local tradesmen have been employed to see through the high standard and quality renovation.

The Safety bit…

We have fire door chains on all the doors. There are door stops provided whilst you are in the property for your convenience. There is a smoke alarm in the kitchen and located in most of the other main areas. There is a fire extinguisher if needed in the store cupboard.

Big No No’s…

This cottage is strictly pet free.  As a family we use the cottage as our special second home and want to keep it immaculate and have members of the family who suffer from asthma, hence the pet free rule.  My customers visit knowing that all of the bedding is anti-allergy with no pets visiting.  Also smoke free.  I do reserve the right to refuse any bookings including pets, so please don’t ask.
